junior year recap

Hi my friends!!! So, I just finished my junior year of high school. I have had one of the best years of my life. I wanted to make a couple lists of 11, since I have now completed 11 years of school..!

11 things I’ve learned:

  1. The relationships you have with people are the most important things you can have. A friendship is so valuable.
  2. Quality over Quantity. Always.
  3. You don’t need an boyf or girlf to be happy
  4. But if/when you do have one and they do make you happy, you are pretty lucky.
  5. Having a clean room will make life less chaotic.
  6. You’re attitude determines e v e r y t h i n g
  7. You don’t have to care what other people think, but you should still be nice
  8. Revenge isn’t sweet
  9. Don’t settle for friends, or for anything, do what you can to get what you want
  10. Don’t just sit around, spend time with the people you love doing the things you love.
  11. You grow when you get out of your comfort zone

11 things i would tell ‘will be’ juniors

  1. Don’t be the moocher, no one likes a moocher, it is gonna be okay if you spend a little money
  2. Don’t get stuck in your group, expand your social circle and be friends with as many people as you can
  3. Be your own person, don’t worry about what everyone else is doing or not doing. You do you and you’ll find people who will love you for that
  4. Find hobbies and something to do with your time, go play a sport, go get a job, go do something with your life
  5. GRADES ARE IMPORTANT!!!! DO YOUR HOMEWORK AND STUDY
  6. The best friends are the ones that make you a better you
  7. Be brave and go for your crush, for example tell their friends you think they’re hot, sometimes it works out to be something pretty great 🙂
  8. Being mature is something you won’t look back on and regret.
  9. Get out and do fun things, go to high school events, but if there’s nothing to do, go and do something no one has never done before.
  10. Be kind to everyone and make an effort to include others, you never know what they are actually going through and how far a little could go. You’ll never regret being kind either
  11. Do not wish away time, ever, ever, ever, you’re never gonna be able to live this year again.

These 22 things are the things that have stood out the most this year, and I hope by sharing I can inspire and help you. It seriously has been one of the best years so far. Being sixteen has been incredible. I am so happy for the moments now, and I hope when I look back I have happy memories.

ANYWAYS!

Until next week!!!

what’s in my backpack?

happy monday!!!! I hope your easter was super great!!! And I hope you’re ready for this upcoming week!! Today I wanted to do a what’s in my bag, backpack style, so here are 14 things in my backpack I wanna tell you about!! And this is pretty basic, cause who wants to haul around all that extra stuff… (and I tried a flat lay, are you proud of me?!!)hereitis.jpg

  1. This is just a simple 3 ring binder!! I keep all my papers from class organized into folders! I started just putting papers in my backpack, like not in the folder, and I need to do better at actually putting them away…. hahaha
  2. This is a planner!! I use it sometimes, I’ll go two weeks where I use it everyday and then two weeks where I won’t even touch it. I like this planner because it has room to write everyday, and it also has monthly calendars so I can scribble in due dates and such.
  3. My iPhone and my earbuds!! (my phone screen is so sad…) not much to say here, but you gotta have your music and your phone, you feel??
  4. These are my car keys!! It’s really been nice to have them on a lanyard with a big ol’ fluff ball so I can find them easily in my backpack!!
  5. CALCULATOR TO DO MATH!
  6. I have a key chain with a flash drive and two keys, which to be totally honest with you, I don’t know what they are for….
  7. Chapstick, Mascara, and Lip gloss. Just three of the most essential beauty essentials.
  8. Look how cute my water bottle is!!! It was $10 at target like a week ago and I have been so motivated by my cute water bottle that I have gotten all 64 oz of water in everyday the last 4 days!!!
  9. Extra charger cause it’s a must
  10. This is a cute lil’ compact mirror for those emergencies hahaha
  11. My collection of brushes, pencils, highlighters, markers, felt pens, I try to keep as many pencils as I can handy cause I having to ask someone to borrow a pencil every class period…
  12. Safe Haven by Nicholas Sparks!!! I keep getting all his books confused cause I’ve read like 5 or 6 of them in the last 7 months or so hahaha but I really am liking this one!!!
  13. My portable charger!! LIFE SAVER
  14. This is just a little pencil case to hold all my pencils and such haha I always have little scissors and glue too, just in case…!!!

I only have 6 weeks left of school this year, and I’m so excited for summer!! It’s actually my favorite time of year. And this is my last real summer, so I am ready to go live it up, but for now here’s goodbye from me and my now organized backpack as I finish up my homework……. thanks for reading!!!

a picture a week, a video a day

HELLO BEAUTIFUL PEOPLE!! This week is spring break and it is MUCH needed. I’m soooooo stoked. I get to go visit Las Vegas (look out for next Monday’s post!). This post is gonna be way low key though, cause I’m just on my way, but as I’m sitting there, I’m thinking of all the random days I don’t remember!! I’m not really sad about it, I’m just thinking about how that’s how it is. And then I think of the memories that stand out a lot, and the ones that do come to mind are either really important things that happened, or they’re something that happened that I have pictures of. When you have pictures of something you reflect and remember; as often as you see the photo. I want to remember more and as I do that, I want to do more things that are worth remembering. So it is my goal to do just that.

My goal is to take one picture every week on my DSLR of something worth remembering and to take a one second video every. single. day. I’m gonna use one of those apps for this, but I gotta stick with it!! Soooooo if you wanna try with me here’s a list of ideas for the next 52 weeks of photos! (ahahaha printable!!! cross em off!!!) 52thingstophotograph

***Also the app I have is 1 Second Everyday: Video Diary and I love it. Download it. Use it. It’s super nice cause it reminds you to take a video during the day (much needed..)

That’s all for today! Thank you for reading!!! SEE YA NEXT WEEK!!

february favorites

YAY what a trendy post to do! This is a classic blog post and I’m soo excited.. so let’s get right into it.

I have five things that were MAJOR necessities this February and I want to share them with you!!

#1 My favorite makeup item is the e.l.f. Instant Lift Brow Pencil I had gone to target and didn’t know what to get to replace my powder I used to fill in my brows, and there it was lit up on the elf shelf, and since it only cost $2 I thought I’d get it. AND MY OH MY I LOVE IT. It’s strokes are thin enough to where it looks natural to fill my brows in, and the color goes so well with my brow color. This is a new statement piece in my own makeup collection.

#2 WALMART’S COCONUT WAVE SODA. Ohhhhh myyyy this stuff if is liquid blue gold. I am obsessed. It makes my day soo much brighter to have this tasty drink, I’m obsessed. AND it’s only .99¢ !! And if you’re the kinda person that likes cream in your soda, this is the best one!!!!

#3 Iphone Camera Lenses!! These were also very cheap from Wish.com and I think it was $2 including shipping. These have honestly been so fun and I’ve had some dope pictures as a result. They fit really well over my case on my iphone 6. There’s 3 lenses, my favorite one is the macro, I can zoom in soo close and see things at a different view.

#4 Nicholas Spark’s shabangles of books. I’m not really a reader, I am if I can find a book that I can fall into, and I definitely have with his books. Between The Notebook, The Wedding, Dear John, and Safe Haven that I have read since the year started, this has been key to my February!

#5 My Fitbit!! I have the Alta Model in black, and this is the first big thing I’ve bought with my own money. And I love it!! I love that it’s not something I could get distracted with, but it still does it’s job. I either love or hate seeing the graph of how many steps I took hahaha

So there’s that!! My first Favorite Posts!!!!!! I think I’m gonna try and do them every other month…. that would be good…..

BUT ANYWAYS!! THANKS FOR READING!!!

valentine’s day

HAPPY VALENTINES TOMORROW!! I HAVE A SUPER SOPHISTICATED POST TO CELEBRATE. HERE IT IS. GET HYPED.

Soooooo in celebration I made a couple treats and I wanted to share them with you!! So the first thing I made was cream cheese mints! These are more popular around Christmas, but I wanted to put a pink spin on em’. The recipe came from tatertotsandjello.com but i divided it by two, just cause I didn’t want too many mints.

You’ll need:

  • 4 oz cream cheese (half of the regular box) (softened)
  • 1 tbsp butter (softened)
  • 1/2 tsp peppermint extract (I used peppermint oil, so I only needed 1/8 teaspoon.)
  • about 2 1/3 cups powdered sugar (ish)
  • food coloring (if you wanna)

Then you’ll need

  • a larger mixing bowl
  • a hand mixer
  • a sheet pan for them to set
  • frosting tips (bags, I just used Ziploc bags)
  • a scooping utensil

img_5135

Steps:

  1. Cream the butter and cream cheese together til smooth.
  2. Add in Peppermint Flavoring, mix.
  3. Add in the powdered sugar, about 1/4 cup at a time. Add until the mixture is smooth and can hold its shape.
  4. Add dye and mix well! I split mine into 3 different bowls and did 3 different colors! I ended up with a soft pink, a berry pink, and white!
  5. Put into bags and pipe onto your pan. I did mine in the shapes of hearts, some were bigger than others haha. Also, if you are gonna use Ziploc bags, DO NOT USE THE REGULAR SANDWICH BAGS. I PROMISE YOU THEY WILL BREAK. USE THE QUART BAGS THAT ARE STRONGER!!
  6. Refrigerate til firm!! (Mine took like 5 hours)
  7. Eat and share!!

img_5158img_5235

Now!! The second treat was sooo fun and soo simple to make!! And all of my own creation. *high-five*

You’ll need:

  • ice
  • pineapple juice
  • fruit punch
  • carbonated drink like sprite (I used that strawberry one)
  •  half and half
  • whipped cream (if you’re a party person)

img_5145

Excuse the handwriting lololol. This is the map of the cup.

img_7600

Steps:

  1. Fill it up just a little with ice
  2. Then pour pineapple juice to the top of the ice
  3. Add fruit punch til it is half way full
  4. Add the carbonated drink til there is only a little bit of room left
  5. Top it off with half and half.
  6. Mix!
  7. Add whipped cream and sprinkles and cute straws if your heart so desires.

img_5151

Both these treats turned out soo yummy and were so cute! Definitely got me in the v-day mood!! And can I get another high-five for a real fancy blog post?!?! And if my friends are reading this, come eat some of my mints. I’d love to share the love with ya!!!

THANKS SO MUCH FOR READING!!!

do what makes you happy

Helllllloooooooooo!!!! HAPPY THURSDAY!!!!

So since I’ve started this whole website thing (like a whole 10 days!!) I’ve really been aware of what I am doing on the daily, and why I do it. And what I have learned  is really important to life in general, I learned that you gotta DO WHAT MAKES YOU HAPPY.

I’ve noticed as I’ve read other people’s blogs, that you can tell if they wanna be writing the post, you can tell if they really want to have the blog. THE PASSION SHOWS!!!!!! It shines through every word!! You can tell that there is happiness behind the stories. Same thing goes for sports, if you watch someone and they’re getting better at what they do, they clearly like it enough to practice and improve!

It’s such a waste of your time to do things you don’t enjoy. There’s that quote about how if you find a line of work you are passionate about and you enjoy, you’ll never work a day in your life. And that’s seriously what everything is about! It’s soo important to find the happiness in life. I have so many friends and people in my life that go on and on about how awful and hard life is and how they are so sad about everything, (sidenote SADNESS IS GOOD, YOU GOTTA FEEL THE FEELS) and there is nothing I can do to keep them happy. But I have other people in my life who have passions and live life to the fullest, and those people are the happiest people I know. They are the best ones to hang out with. Those are the friends that make me pee my pants…. hahahaha

When you do the things you like to do, it brings a kind of happiness that is soo contagious, the passion it takes can inspire everyone around you.

That’s the reason I’m writing this blog. Because it makes me happy. Everytime I sit down to write, my heart skips a beat and my mind starts thinking and my fingers start typing. I love it.

find what makes you happy and do it

thanks so much for reading!!

a letter to my future self..

So for today’s post I wanted to write myself a letter to refer back to later! A lot of people do this on their blogs, and I thought it would be a fun one to have at the beginning of my blog! Hahaha but cut me some slack cause I’ve never done this before…

To myself in the year 2022,

How you doing?! I can’t even imagine how different life is!! You’ve graduated, may or may not be home from a mission, and hopefully in college! I seriously hope everything has gone as well as can be hoped! I have 15 questions to go through!!

  1. What was the overall best high school memory?!
  2. Have you crashed a car yet????
  3. Do you feel like an adult?! Cause atm I’m sixteen and don’t feel older than 13….
  4. Have you decided what you wanna be when you grow up?
  5. What’s your biggest regret from the last 5 years?
  6. Who is your best friend and how did you meet them?
  7. Have you traveled much?!
  8. Do you still write on the blog?
  9. Do you have friends that make you pee your pants laughing? You need those :’)
  10. What is your favorite thing to do?
  11. What is the best choice you made?
  12. Are you in school? Or working? Or something else?!
  13. What is the most important thing in your life?
  14. How do you relax? Still that cute lil camera?!
  15. ARE YOU HAPPY?

Some words of advice from your past self! Everything is gonna work out. It always has and it always will. Friends come and go, but the fam is there for the long haul. Don’t let anyone run your life, you never did, you never should, but you shouldn’t tune out good advice. Make sure you are choosing good things, and laughing about everything.

– karly 2/6/2017

Also a side note!! I found an AWESOME site where you can write yourself a note and set it up to email you on a certain day in the future. I’m for sure going to try to use it, cause as I was writing this I was getting excited to read it later!! So here is the link: https://www.futureme.org/

Thank you for reading!! And I’ll talk to you guys next week!!

my first blog post !!

Today is my day.. I’ve wanted to do this for soo long. So here I am.

I’m Karly Bain and this is my blog.

Firsts are really important. If you think about it, they’re actually a common topic. First words, first day(s) of school, first kiss, first time you met your spouse, first day on the job, I could go on and on. It’s the start of something new! So in honor of my first post, I tried to do a couple of things for the first time today!

I had to get my friends to do it with me. First we went to subzero (for my first time) and I went crazy and got a flavor I wouldn’t usually get. I got TIGER’S BLOOD and it was actually  realllllly good. After ice cream, we went to go get over my fears…. I don’t like big birds. Like at all. Long story for another time aha. That one ended up not being anything new because I still hid behind Lexi and ran away when they started to get close. But hey.. I tried. After I regained control of my emotions my friends showed me some ‘classic’ music, that was completely new to me, no comment on the quality…. Haha we pretty much went crazy!!! In this little city of mine there isn’t much everyone hasn’t done, but it’s good to try. I’m going to make it my goal to keep trying to do new things! And I challenge everyone reading this to do the same thing!!! THANK YOU FOR READING AND STAY TUNED 🙂
